The journal was founded January 5, 1881 by Real Colegio de Agustinos Filipinos de Valladolid because of P. Tomás Cámara y de Castro’a initiative. Initially, the journal focused on missions of the Order of St. Augustine, but in 1887 the title was changed to La Ciudad de Dios. The journal increased the rate of publication, expanded the topics, opened new sections, reaffirmed its apologetic furor and boosted escurialenses issues. In 1928-1935, it merged with its sister journals in Spain and America, and ap-peared with the title of Religión y Cultura. In 1936, the journal used again the name of La Ciudad de Dios, which continues today. (Source: http://www.agustinosescorial.com/estudios-publicaciones/revistas/la-ciudad-de-dios)
