This is a daily newspaper containing notices and news from the Philippines, Spain, Europe, and America. It is written in Spanish. It includes the following sections: Religious, Spanish News, Foreign News, Literary, Port Activities, Business, Notices, Announcements, Advertise-ments, Cultural Activities in Manila, Products for Sale, Current Prices of Commodities, an industrial section, a scientific section, political chronicles, and a serialized novel. Every issue includes the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. The newspaper uses the idiom of the times with incon-sistencies in spelling. Aside from news, the paper tries to make the reader enjoy poetry, novels and character sketches. Some articles included in this issue were taken from previously published articles; proper citation/acknowledgements given.
Clarification: The Spanish and foreign sections of the paper give many news that the people working in La Estrella de Manila got from many Span-ish or international newspapers. They always acknowledge the original newspaper from where they got the information they give in the La Estrella. Even if those papers reached here with some months of delay, they arrived and were read. It is in good condition although the edges of the pages are brittle.
