This paper tries to trace the influence of America on Philippine music starting from the time of the American Regime in the Philippines by noting down the most salient influences of American music on Philippine compositions during the contemporary period. The study is limited to consider the American influence on Philippine music and not vice versa. The paper is divided in to three parts. The first part gives information about the history of American music. The second part gives information about the history of Philippine music. The third part narrates the historical background of American influence in Philippine music. In conclusion, the paper states that Philippine musicians may one day be able to create their own blend of music that is basically and distinctively Filipino by blending oriental and occidental influences.
