This thesis covers the following points: (1) a brief explanation of the nature of Christian marriage, its ends and essential properties, and the laws governing Christian marriage; (2) comparison of the Church and State Laws with regard to the requisites of marriage, impediments, consent, form and divorce; (3) similarities and differences between Canon Law and Civil Law and possible solutions and (4) conclusion. With this study, the writer hopes to enlighten, not so much the Churchmen who are presumed to be knowledgeable on the matter as the lawmakers of the Philippines on the main differences or conflicting views of Canon Law and Civil Law regarding the marriage of Catholics so that they may realize the importance of bringing about a reconciliation of both laws. These reconciliation of conflicting points of law would in turn benefit the future family life of Filipino Catholics.
