Apprenticeship has always been the proven method of building a truly knowledgeable force of industrial technicians .This paper attempts to describe the functions of apprentice training and the training concepts now being implemented through apprenticeship in the Philippines. Development of this thesis came about through on-the-job experience with Filipino apprentices, reading, research in the Office of Apprenticeship, a limited compilation of statistical materials, visitation of a variety of apprentice programs and related instruction classes for case studies and through informal interview sessions with apprentices, instructors, officials of the Department of Labor and with Philippine businessmen. No crash courses, no special two-week “training centers” can develop true technical ability in the Philippine labor force. Solid apprenticeship training coupled with greater stress on vocational and technical training in high schools and colleges is the proven route to industrialization in countries around the world.
