The supermarket industry has always played a key influencer in the economic performance of the Philippines. Throughout the decades, it has served to be a major indicator of the country's overall economic standing. To both macro and micro standpoints, the industry mirrors the country's growth and the condiction of the Filipino consumers. This research examined the supermarket industry from 1996 to 2002 by analyzing its efficiency and productive performance. This was evaluated in the context of the top players' financial performance. Individual performance of the supermarkets and the combined industry performance were probed deeper in the context of a robust empirical analysis. Consideration of consumer behavior, trends and economical aspects were analyzed in relation to the performance of the industry. This study also attempted to discuss the key performance factors of the supermarket industry throughout the sample period.
