The Construction, psychometric properties and standardization of a teacher characteristics inventory in identifying quality performance of basic education teachers in the Philippines
This is an instrument development project. It aimed to describe in detail the diffrent steps in the development and construct validation of an inventory that could identify quality performance of teachers based on their personality traits or characteristics. The concept generation was done nationwide. However, the try-out and standardization sample came from NCR and Regions 1 to 4. Four sets of samples were used. A total of 1, 939 respondents from 90 representative public and private schools were utilized in the data gathering. Data from the concept generation became the basis for the conceptualization of the preliminary form of the inventory. The reliability, validity and correlation among variables were computed through the use of the following statistical treatment: Item-Total Correlations, Cronbach Alpha Coefficient Correlation, Spearman Brown Formula and One-way Analysis of Variance. The final form of the inventory consisted of 49 items + 5 items for the lie score. The result of the administration of this 54-item inventory was utilized in the validation and norm procedures. The newly developed instrument is found to be a very effective psychometric tool in identifying quality performance of teachers.
