In judicial proceedings for the registration of land titles, not infrequently the bench and the bar have come across documents purporting to be land grants made by the Spanish Government in the Philippines. Copies of the "Gaceta de Manila," and other sources of information are not available to many judges and practitioners outside Manila for consultation and ascertainment of the laws in force at the time the purported land grants were made. A study of the most important laws, royal decrees, orders, and cedulas, and government decrees and orders on this subject promulgated by the Spanish Government in the Philippines might render some aid to the members of the bench and bar.
