The fluvial processions present a visualized diversification and originality in religious sentiment. They emphasize the social function of worship and organized religion making possible social interation. The traditional values involve the full participation of the people. The fluvial festivals are a popular devotion which originated and flourished within definite localities. For many years, they have been adopted by the faithful of particular towns. They have been socially accepted as religous practices but do not have the official character of the liturgy. This study is limited to the investigation of fluvial procession practices held in Apalit, Pampanga, Bocuae and Obando, Bulacan; Malabon, Pateros, and Angono; Rizal; and Tondo, Manila. Specifically, this study will answer the following questions: (1) How did the practice of fluvial festivals originate? (2) What elements are common in the fluvial processions in the Philippines? (3) Why should the fluvial processions be made a part of the liturgical celebrations? and (4) What elements in the fluvial processions can be made a part of the liturgical celebration?
