This study is focused on the manner in which the Philippines is pursuing the new directions in international trade with the Socialist countries of Eastern Europe in efforts to achieve balanced economic exposure to the world and accelerate national economic growth by delving into the following areas: (a) recent trends in the economy of the Socialist countries of Eastern Europe; (b) existing trade practices with these countries to find out the problems that confront the further development of trade with theses areas; (c) present commodity structure of Philippine export trade, specifically in terms of the broad product and the geographic concentration of the export flow to these countries.
