It is an unchallenged fact that the principal problem facing the Philippines today is the economic development of the nation, yet a detailed research reveals not one single volume has been written on the subject of the Economic Geography of the Philippines. Numerous publications have appeared on the industrial development and the agricultural development of the Philippines, but not formal study of geographical influences on the economic structure of the country and its effect upon the overall economic development appears to have been made. The absence of such a study is a problem of great significance and it is the purpose and intent of this work to fill that need. It also aims to show the realtionship between economic condition and the geography of the Philippines; between the present pattern of trade and her geographical position; and the importance of proper utilization of natural resources in relation to the economic problems in the Philippines and to find out the scope for industrialization of the Philippine Islands.
