The initial work in this research was a thorough examination in Manila of ccthe records of the Davao land case pertaining to the large scale acquisition of lands in Davao by Nipponese nationals in which the blame was laid on the Philippine Government for not having a backbone and a firm hand to stop it. For this reason, Filipinos should be acquainted with the whole situation on how the Japanese acquired lands there. Two very important points were noted: (1) the sudden order of President Quezon to stop all investigations in Davao and (2) the transcendental responsibility of the Philippine National Assembly for approving a rider inserted in Public Land Act No. 141, permitting non-citizens of the Philippines to lease public land for industrial or commercial purposes. Concluding but substantial portion of this study was made by occular inspections and close range observations in various Japanese abaca plantations in Davao, particularly at Talomo, Mintal Ula, Kalinan, Digos, Santa Cruz and other sections of Guianga district. Valuable first hand information were obtained from reliable Davao citizens, professionals, businessmen, laborers and government officials.
