Transformational leadership behavior among public and private secondary school principals in Manila : towards building an educational leadership training program
This investigative study examines the extent of transformational leadership behaviors among twenty nine (29) public and private secondary school principals in Manila in the school year 2001-2002 using the following indicators: Vision, Value Orientation, Individual Consideration, Empowerment, Communication Skills, Motivation Orientation, and Deployment of Self. Using Sloven's formula, a sample group of teachers from the participating schools were also asked as secondary respondents to assess the principals using the same criteria. The study aims to evolve an educational leadership training program that may enhance leadership competencies among aspiring, newly promoted education leaders, and those currently occupying leadership roles in different government and non-government organizations. The results of the study reveal that there is no significant difference in the self-assessment between public and private secondary school principals and there is also no significant difference between the self-assessment of principals and the teachers' assessment of them.
