Summary | A meritorious history that started off as just a chronological account (Volume One) before fully developing into narrative that makes it a regular narrative, the only general history of the nineteenth century. The first volume was published in 1887. The author resumed work, after returning from the Philippines and consulting W. Retana’s library. Volume Two was published in 1894 and Volume Three in 1895. The range of the work is wide, starting with the discovery by Magellan. However, the author is prejudiced in some sections particularly in narrating the events of Cavite, leading to the execution of Gomburza (cf. Volume III, Chapter XXVII); biased but useful manuals.
