Summary	The author, an Augustinian, was in the Philippine Islands from 1875-1893, 1896-1898. The volume, made up of ten chapters, discusses the history of the monastic orders in the Philippines, concentrating on the contributions of these religious orders to agriculture, education, industry, infrastructure, etc. Chapter Five focuses on the different schools run by the religious up to 1863.
