Content	A novena by the famous Filósofo Rancio \(“rancid philosopher,” a name he chose for himself to imply “love of wisdom.” He was one of the staunchest defenders of the Church aainst the liberalism proclaimed by the Cadiz constitution. Though he died in exile in Portugal, his conservative and Thomistic ideas found an audience in Manila, especially among the philosophers of the University of Santo Tomas (Villarroel II, pp. 34-38).
